SheBeat's #ScottishMusicScene on K107

There's a new music radio show in town...

This ain't my first radio rodeo but it's my first dabble since I moved to Scotland a year ago. I love sharing music by grassroots independent artists and bands like myself, and I love community radio so this is a win all 'round.

So pleased to join the lovely team at K107 in Kirkcaldy, I'm onto episode 3 this week (Thursdays 6-8pm), and you can listen to all episodes again - whenever it suits your new music listening hours - using this link to find my show button: https://www.k107.co.uk/listen-again

I've been trawling Facebook groups, Spotify playlists and hitting up local pals for recommends to find hideen treasures (and more obvious treasures, too haha) so don't be shy if you're a part of the scene this show is for you & I'd be happy to get songs/ events/ guests suggested - just @ me on insta or twitter @shebeatmusic

Remember Love - new SheBeat release EPK

'Remember Love' is the new single from Scottish-based solo artist SheBeat. Released first on fan-powered Bandcamp and Patreon platforms, the single is now on all streaming sites for playlists and listening pleasure.

The song is about a new relationship when all the love songs feel especially written for your new beau. In fact, you hear this exact jumping off point in the first line of 'Remember Love'.

Singer-songwriter SheBeat Jodie said: "This is a declaration to a new love, with all the optimism and joy that involves, infused into the music and lyrics."

This dreampop love song offers a romantic, summer sound to relax to, with exclusive cover artwork from Margate artist Margo McDaid

SheBeat explains: "I've been following the talented Ms. McDaid on Instagram for some time and find her simple but striking artworks so delightful. I humbly asked if she would collaborate on my cover art for this release, and amazingly she agreed! It's such an honour, and I hope SheBeat fans will see the parallels in our work - simplicity, character and memorable messages."

The Liverpool born, Leith artist has released a number of well-received singles this year, all produced by Brawsome Productions' Ian White (Sons of the Descent, The Wendys).

Producer Ian White said: "This is a gentle song and I took a delicate approach to production. All the tracks this year we've worked on together - Believe, So Into You, Homecoming Queen - each have their own sound while remaining distinctly SheBeat in style. Excited to work on more tracks ahead of the album release."

COMING SOON

Another single release is planned for the autumn and a debut album before the end of 2021.

BACKGROUND

LONG BIO

SheBeat picked up her guitar and stepped into the live music scene in Liverpool at the end of 2012. Singing original songs from the start, filling the in-between bits with stories and smiles, SheBeat isn't quite like anyone else. After a gigtastic year learning her stage craft on the open mic scene in Liverpool, Chester and surrounding North West region, SheBeat was soon being booked for billed gigs and local festivals.

In 2014, SheBeat published a self-titled debut EP featuring tracks Mine, Freaky Crazy, Always on the Run and She Never Sleeps Alone. Recorded by producer Darren Jones at his home studio in L8, with Beach Boys-style keys and backing vocals from We Are Catchers' Peter Jackson.
Next release followed in 2015 and her second EP recorded at Liverpool's prestigious The Motor Museum Studios with new producer James Mellor. Featuring title track Feels Like, Rainproof, Yours Sincerely, and for a limited edition CD, recordings of Until Now and Hairy Boy Blues. This time SheBeat took a more stripped-back approach with no frills to try and capture the intimate experience of her live performances.

In 2018 SheBeat released her recording of Until Now as a digital single for the first time, then in summer 2019, she released a live recording of Feels Like, recorded live at The Bedford in Balham.

A third EP was released November 2019, recorded, mixed and mastered at DROMA Records with producer Jack Tasker in his Birmingham home studio. Featuring three new songs including title track Catch Your Breath, Untethered (co-written with friend Dave Ridley) and Impossible on the digital edition, plus a new stripped-back recording of her fan-favourite Freaky Crazy on the CD edition.

In 2020 SheBeat released the fan-favourite Marry Me, in time for February's Leap Day. Then popular lockdown release, Lockdown Limbo, followed in May. The song written during the early COVID lockdown, was produced remotely with help from Brawsome Productions' Ian White in Edinburgh. In June, another fan-favourite song, Hairy Boy Blues, was released on Bandcamp and a physical CD compilation from Birmingham indie label Die Das Der to raise funds to support small venues in Birmingham closed due to the ongoing pandemic.

After moving to Scotland in late 2020, all the 2021 single releases have all been recorded in Edinburgh with Ian 'Brawsome' White. Believe came out in January, So Into You in February and Homecoming Queen in March. New release Remember Love is out in August.

All singles and EPs are available for streaming and download on SheBeat Records published via Ditto Music on all the popular platforms.

SheBeat new release Homecoming Queen EPK

Homecoming Queen is the third new single from singer-songwriter, SheBeat (Jodie Schofield), this year.

The Liverpool born, North Edinburgh based artist wrote the song with storytelling influences from Dolly Parton, Lennon and McCartney and Courtney Barnett, to name a few of her favourites.

Released for first listen via Bandcamp and Patreon to encourage fans to choose the artist-friendly platforms, a homemade video promo will follow on the YouTube channel, and streaming on all music platforms before the end of the month. See helpful links library at bottom of this post.

It's the story of a woman who may not be the standard Homecoming Queen, but one with a story to tell. SheBeat Jodie said: "Inspired in part by my best friend T who has kept me on the edge of my seat with her real-life capers since we met aged 12, her image also features on my artwork for the single. We took the existing portrait and gave it a punk makeover for the new single cover art as another nod to the Homecoming Queen narrative misdirection. We call it God Save the Homecoming Queen."

The fantastic original portrait was created by Wirral-based artist Barbara Valentine. Thanks to both for use of the image, it will make a great t-shirt one day soon.

Edinburgh producer Ian 'Wendys/ Sons of the Descent' White added lead guitar, bass guitar and percussion loops to the track. Ian said: "This is one of my favourite of SheBeat's tracks, and I wanted to bring it to life with a bigger sound than she's recorded before. We had fun with all the layers of guitars and vocals, and SheBeat chose a 12-string acoustic for her rhythm guitar, which gave us a richness at the core of the track."

SheBeat Jodie added: "The shaker on the track was my goodbye gift from music pal Quinn Lam when I left Birmingham last summer to move north. I hope to be able to get on the road again once lockdown is over to visit my friends all over the UK."

Expect more new music in 2021 for SheBeat, plus a Beat Zine and debut album. Hear SheBeat news first via my Patreon, or join my mailing list - email shebeatmusic @ gmail.com

SheBeat new release So Into You EPK

So Into You is the latest release from Leith singer-songwriter SheBeat (Jodie Schofield).

The Liverpool born, North Edinburgh based artist recorded shore sounds from the stunning coast at Prestonpans over the summer and decided to mix them with this track, in a bid to create the siren song.

Released for first listen via Bandcamp and Patreon to encourage fans to choose the artist-friendly platforms, a homemade video promo will follow on her YouTube channel, and streaming on all music platforms to follow this month. TikTok friends, go crazy!

It's a love song written recently, SheBeat Jodie said: "The gentle lapping shore sounds really set the pace, I played electric guitar for this, instead of usual acoustic, to enable a slower strum, and since it's a love song I tried a softer vocal, like a whisper to a lover, hopefully if you listen with headphones you'll hear the sentiment. The water should lap back and forth too!"

Edinburgh producer Ian 'Sons of the Descent' White added subterranean keys, lead guitar magic and percussion loops to the track, and the artwork features a picture from North Edinburgh shore.

SheBeat Jodie explains: "The artwork features the shore, because it became such an integral part of the sound of this track. I am in love with the coast at North Edinburgh, filling my socials with colourful sunsets and water landscapes. Being from Liverpool, I grew up by the water, singing sailor songs, hearing about smuggled rum and transatlantic maritime life. This soundscape is a hat tip to that rich river city history."

New music in 2021 for SheBeat, include a Beat Zine and debut album. Hear SheBeat news first via my Patreon, or join my mailing list - email shebeatmusic @ gmail.com

SheBeat Believe 2021 (EPK)

Believe is the latest release from Leith-based singer-songwriter SheBeat aka Jodie Schofield.

The Liverpool born, Edinburgh based artist wanted to release the song about making a difference and being the best you can be to help combat the winter blues, which feel even more stark this year thanks to covid and lockdown life.

Released for first listen via Bandcamp and Patreon to encourage fans to choose the artist-friendly platforms, a homemade slideshow video promo is also up on her YouTube channel and streaming on all music platforms to follow this week. TikTok, we await your Midas touch!

It's a song SheBeat wrote back in 2014 and first recorded during the sessions for her debut EP (SheBeat) as a free download on Soundcloud for kindness project Be Lovely Day in January 2015. A popular track with fans and live audiences, a 2021 revisit felt timely.

SheBeat Jodie said: "With everything against us for the start of the year with lockdown fatigue and covid anxiety, it's an uplifting song about taking life by the love handles and making your best (lockdown) life happen. My Dad always tells me to believe in myself and it's a really empowering simple message I want to share... and remind myself of!"

The track was recorded with the help of Edinburgh producer Ian 'Sons of the Descent' White, and the artwork features a portrait painted by SheBeat friend, and Glasgow-based artist, Tom Heinsohn.

SheBeat Jodie explains: "The artwork shows me flying through the local landscape of North Edinburgh, like a Monty Python character, spreading hope and smiles. Tom had created the portrait for my birthday last year and I superimposed it onto a shot I'd recently taken in Newhaven harbour."

New music plans for 2021 are afoot for SheBeat, including a new BeatZine and debut album. Hear SheBeat news first via my Patreon, or join my mailing list - email shebeatmusic @ gmail.com
