En route to SheBeat 2016

Stop. Collaborate and listen.

2015 has been the most interesting of years thus far in the SheBeat Times. At the beginning of the year, my tour efforts began with a short roadtrip to Mancunia, followed by gigs all over including The Tabernacle in Talgarth, in Brecon, Wales; my first London gig(s) and even a wee spot in Brooklyn, New York #wow

Gigging out of town has been fun, inspiring, interesting and, um, expensive! So the aim to get to places I have not played before continues into 2016, but at a rate that keeps up with the bank balance... Perhaps this is where house gigs will help, if you think you can throw a SheBeat party in 2016 in your living room let's do it!

We also set sail to the first SheBeat music video this year, thanks to the lovely peeps at Liverpool Live TV, which was super fun to film and I'm thrilled to see has gained over 600 views on the mighty YouTube ^_^

Towards the end of the year I have been looking for musical collaborations. I like to write and perform solo, but it's also fun to be a part of a bigger thing so I've offered backing vocals on a number of projects this year with more in the pipeline and I'll keep you posted on social feeds about those projects as and when...

Looking forward then, I've just written a new song and am talking to a new producer about EP number 2, but before we get there I'll be performing at Magnet in Liverpool for the Mellowtone Christmas Party on Dec 16th - let the eggnog and good times roll!

#peace

She Never Sleeps Alone: The Movie

Over the summer SheBeat got together with some friends and Liverpool Live TV and made a video for the EP track She Never Sleeps Alone...

With friends acting out a photo story style shoot, it was a fun day for the archive but hopefully a great new way to share the track - inspired by the Todd White painting of the same name!

Watch it here and share with your friends, it was super exciting to make and here's to the next episode...

Thanks to Todd White, Mari, Max, Tom, Chris, Andy, Steve, Pepper, Luke, Lantern Theatre, Hope St Hotel and James at Liverpool Live TV ^_^

The C Word

A friend suggested to me last week that my music is Country Indie Blues, meanwhile I have pitched for setting my tent up as Acoustic Folk Pop... but given so many influences it's hard to know how to best present - well, tag, your music making efforts! I love Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift as much as the next girl and people oft say I remind them of country artists they love such as Lucinda Williams and the like, so maybe there is some Nashville in my writing afterall!

But it's far from clear cut... For example, my EP features what I would say are my most pop-like songs, but they also have indie, blues, retro, country influences... While this track Won't Be The Same - a very mellow track - is more blues, folk, pop - or is it? Who am I to tell you what you think my music should be categorised as in your little brainbox?!

While I have a small existential crisis, do feel free to feedback how you think I tackle this 'what am I?' question, meanwhile ponder a few live dates I have coming up in this here Liverpool...

Thursday Aug 6th Writers Club, Constellations from 7.30pm
Saturday Aug 8th LIMF Bandstand, Sefton Park

Still crazy after all these years

What a busy time I've had this year gigging all over the place, meeting new friends, having a big birthday and now time to make my first music video! The video will feature my song titled She Never Sleeps Alone found on my debut EP and inspired by the Todd White painting of the same name.

Todd White painting which inspired the song

Songwriting times

This is my Fender Malibu and with the help of this pretty little thing I have been working on a new song, entitled Until Now... There have been a distinct lack of songwriting times in my life of late, for various reasons, but it's worth remembering that more life content = more songwriting content, that is to say, what goes in must come out ^_^

I'll post a work-in-progress demo on my soundcloud this weekend so you can give me some feedback, lots of gigs coming up including Chorlton Arts Festival this weekend, Liverpool Soundcity next weekend and a spot performing for the 3 Queens weekend, so come along and see me if you are free/ in the area: below are my upcoming dates with more to be confirmed as the summer arrives...

On the road

Being on the road the last couple of months has taught me one thing: I do love live music making! The places you discover (ie. Brecon, hello beautiful!), the people you meet (ie. lovely Scarborough bearded types), the opportunity to play music for people who have never heard you before and invite to play other gigs (ie. lovely Glaswegians I met at Threshold Festival) ^_^

Then there's the after-parties... The Tabernacle in Talgarth was a very special gig with a great array of wonderful people all piled into the Bridgend Inn afters for rum and singing of songs... Good times indeed, defo staying in touch with that rabble!

Really looking forward to more fun times as the summer months approach and of course how could I NOT play the hirsute event of the year BeerdFest in September...

There's nothing quite like SheBeat

SheBeat is a London sensation at The Woodman acoustic night in Highgate

Having MUCH fun on the road with my geet ^_^ It's so great meeting all these new music loving folks & playing places I never played before...

Stockport Blue Cat was lovely - those Wintergreen boys I played with have threatened to play round this way so watch out for them! Upstairs at The Quadrant in Brighton is run every Tuesday by a sweetheart called Jenna Bennett who I have insisted comes north for at least a weekend and a giglet!
The Woodman in Highgate is run by a decent dude called Phil and there was a great mix of acts in a gorgeous old drinking hole just next to the tube stop, I recommend if you're in the area!
Hopefully will get another London date in before the end of the year, too much fun not to!* Very thankful to a bunch of my old buddies coming along to support me, quite the posse! Thanks for the love, loves!

Looking forward to playing special venue The Tabernacle this Saturday night and then a very bearded crowd in Scarborough weekend after for Yorkshire Beard Day! Then onto Threshold Festival - my first hometown gig of the year, get your tickets loves! It's a fab lineup for the grassroots festival run by good people, #supportlocalmusic cos one day they might write your favourite song ever ever ever! #fact

SheBeat on Tour

This week kicks off 2015 for SheBeat with a road trip to Manchester's Northern Quarter to play The Whiskey Jar - my first gig of the year!

This year it's my plan to play as many gigs outside of Liverpool as I can, there will be local gigs too ofcoursicles ... But like the ol' song goes "What the world needs now,..." is to discover some SheBeat!

Here's a guide to where you can catch me over the coming months... I'll update it as I get more spots, I'm looking forward to playing places I never played before and meeting people I never met before! In fact if you have a recommend for someplace you think would love to hear some SheBeat live, let me know and I'll see about getting me and my guitar there over the summer ^_^

If It Was My Band: REVIEW

Imagine you could ask a music industry insider for their best tips… How to secure that private jet lifestyle, or perhaps you just need to know how to achieve cider and sandwiches for your backstage rider… If you’re trying to make music a full time gig, If It WasMy Band (£8.99) is a great start in your journey to rock stardom.

Author Emma Scott is a professional radio presenter, gig promoter, radio plugger… and boy does she know her onions when it comes to all things music! Finding herself muttering ‘If it was MY band…’ all too often, the book was born and what a handy little guide it is too... Only a third of the way through I was making my own to-do list in my head.

When music is your passion it’s easy to forget about the ‘business’ end of things, you don’t imagine Paul McCartney gets very involved with his PRS form filling… but while you’re on the up and up, these little streams of revenue really make a difference in your direction of travel.

It’s a genuine gift to get this kind of insight, as we all know the music industry is who you know, not how many chords you can play or amazing songs you can write, so grab this little gem while you can and then god speed to rock and roll history
– just remember it was Emma who helped you get there, and defo invite me to your Liverpool gig date, plus 1 yeah? ;)
